The Institute of Astrophysics was established in July 2009 to carry out professional and comprehensive research on astrophysical areas after winning leading researcher project fund governed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and National Research Foundation in Korea (NRF) in March 2009. As the research on extrasolar planets, the institute’s key project, attracts significant interest from both experts and the general public, its achievements are expected to attract national attention, especially, inspiring kids and teens to dream big about science. It shall also be a great opportunity to effectively show the level of Korean science and technology not only to the scientific community but also to the general public around the world.

Major Projects

The institute focuses on discovering extrasolar planets on a large scale, the most significant topic and critical concern in modern astrophysics. It also carries out the following projects:
