The Social Science Research Institute was established to contribute to the social development of the country and the local community and the improvement of the welfare of humankind by carrying out studies on regional development and environmental issues, operation of local and central governments, international relations and inter-Korean issues, and other academic research from the perspective of social policy.

History

  • Jun. 15, 1993 Established Social Science Research Institute affiliated with College of Social Sciences
  • Mar. 1997 1997 Integrated with International Relations Research Institute and Regional Development Institute in CBNU; approved as a statutory institute

Functions

  • Research on various social science issues at home and abroad
  • Research on the development of various policies and education programs
  • Research on international relations and contemporary thought
  • Research on unification of the Korean Peninsula and Inter-Korean issues
  • Research on management of local governments and revitalization of civic engagement
  • Research on development of local resources and local economy
  • Research on environmental preservation and development for the survival of human beings
  • Holding academic conferences, lectures, seminars, etc.
  • Archiving various materials, and publishing and distributing research papers
  • Conducting other related projects needed to fulfill the purpose of the institute

Research Activities

The institute publishes a journal Social Science Studies twice a year. And it regularly holds international academic conferences at least once a year, national academic conferences at least four times a year, and guest lectures at least twice a year. It is currently working on a research project. In addition, its own library has more than 4,000 books.

Future Development Plans

Securing academic research grants from the Ministry of Education to revitalize research

  • Retaining excellent researchers
  • Revitalizing joint seminars with other university institutes, private research centers, government-funded organizations, and foreign university research centers
  • Publishing at least one research journal for each center
